The funeral will take place on Saturday, June 12th, 2021 at 11 a.m. in Westminster Presbyterian Church. Afterwards there will be a reception in the church. Aline was born on June 8, 1923 in Greensboro to Lewis and Mable Cox Thompson. Aline was a lifelong member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School, was the Circle Chair, an Honorary Woman of the Church and Elders, and where she served as a secretary for many years. Aline read her Bible every day and believed in the Lord very strongly. She was also an extremely dedicated wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, and a caregiver for everyone she met. Aline worked in a bomb factory during World War II. She spent many years with her husband looking after their daughter Judy who had Down syndrome, lived her life and had all the options any human could have. This dedication is a testament to her character and the love she had for her family. In addition to her parents, Aline preceded her 54-year-old husband, Spurgeon ‘Sparky’ Harcum, Jr., in the death; Daughter Judith Aline Harcum; Sisters Mary Whitehead and her husband John F. and Sarah Byrd; Brothers Carlton Thompson and Mrs. Virginia, Richard Thompson and Mrs. Paige, Robert Thompson and Leland Thompson. Those who keep their memories are her son Robert L. Harcum and granddaughter Victoria A. Harcum, both from Virginia Beach, VA, sisters-in-law, Judy Thompson and Linda Thompson, both from Fletcher, NC, and many mistresses and nieces and nephews their children. The family gratefully requests that memorials on Aline’s behalf be addressed to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3906 W. Friendly Ave., Greensboro, NC 27410.
