Don’t Sleep Under the Mapou Tree is an exciting exploration of Haitian folklore and culture that the whole family will love and learn from. Shape-shifting magicians, elephants and even a two-headed dragon tell stories full of miracles and sing songs to help us all learn why we don’t sleep under the Mapou tree!
Creative Greensboro has been giving children the chance to explore the imaginative world of theater for 53 years. “Our program participants are taught that theater practice encompasses all creative disciplines. By putting the process above the product, we create the space for a successful journey in the arts and in life, ”said Todd Fisher, performing arts coordinator at Creative Greensboro.
Kerrie Mubarrak, CEO of Scrapmettle, said “Scrapmettle is excited to be back in the theater room with kids with Creative Greensboro. ‘Don’t sleep under the Mapou tree is a story that lets us explore Haiti’s culture through storytelling, costumes, set design and language. We always like to work with materials that allow children to experience culture through art. It’s an opportunity to broaden your talent and perspective at the same time. “
