Johnson, Clifton Girard

April 2, 1951 – August 11, 2021

On the morning of August 11, 2021, God called retired LTC COL Clifton Girard Johnson home. He died at his home in Greensboro, North Carolina, aged 70.

Col. Johnson was continued by his loving parents, Clifton and Edna Johnson, and best friend and brother Lt Col Wendell Johnson (Midge). Everyone will miss him, especially his family.

His three loving children remain alive; Courtney Johnson, Curtis Johnson, Jordan Johnson. Siblings; Mark Johnson, Sharon Lee (Chris), Sheila Robinson and Ron Johnson. Nieces and nephews; Roshawn Johnson, Tykesia Johnson, Lamar Johnson (Ashley), Devin Robinson, Rashad Lee, Kayla Robinson and Emerson Johnson. Great-nephew Rowan and niece Aurora Johnson.

Clifton is a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and a 32nd degree Freemason. He was a member of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Agencies and the International Association of Police Chiefs.

His military awards and accolades include the Medal of Merit, Air Force Commendation Metal, Air Force Longevity Metal, and many other awards / honors.

The “Colonel” was the first African American and the first member of the US Air Force to head a security / support group for the Defense Logistics Agency.

He loved his church and his family members in the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, as a devout church council president he was active on the Hospitality Committee, PavilconProject and many other committees.

God has called back one of his best children.

A private memorial service for the family and the church family will be held at Brown’s Funeral Home.
