Firefighters douse the elevator room on the vacant Miller Furnishings constructing in downtown Greensboro on Friday Native

GREENSBORO – Firefighters responded to a downtown fire at the vacant Miller Furniture building this morning.

A fourth-floor elevator room was completely engulfed in flames before firefighters extinguished it, officials at the scene said. The building is across from Cheescakes by Alex on South Elm Street in the heart of downtown.

South Greene and South Elm streets were closed from McGee Street to Washington Street during the investigation.

There were no reports of injuries, police said in a press release on Friday.
