Gerry’s Partisan Pizza Truck presents free slices (with hooks) in Greensboro on a nationwide tour of Gerrymandered Districts

GREENSBORO, NC (WGHP) – A group of former elected officials and community leaders used the power of pizza to talk about gerrymandering.

Represent Us group brought Gerry’s Partisan Pizza to Greensboro to raise awareness of unfair redistribution practices. Your Greensboro stop is part of a two-week national food truck tour that stops in states threatened by gerrymandering.

A sign tells customers, “Free pizza only if you live in the residential area where the truck is parked.”

“Gerry’s Partisan Pizza is an initiative of the non-partisan and anti-corruption organization RepresentUs to raise awareness of Gerrymandering. We must demand that this dangerous attack on democracy end. Gerrymandering is when politicians manipulate electoral districts to rig elections. They move electoral district lines so that one political party is unfairly favored over another – and allows them to choose their own voters rather than the other way around. So we choose our customers instead of the customers choosing us – to show how corrupt the practice of gerrymandering really is. “

Some redistribution cards recently proposed by state lawmakers are cause for concern. “Partisan politics should not participate in the formation of districts. Districts and the process must be transparent. It must be open. It has to be independent and fair. It’s a better government, ”said former state senator Don Vaughn.

The new maps were not approved by North Carolina lawmakers, but top Democrats are already threatening lawsuits if the Republican-drawn maps are accepted.
