Greensboro Pleasure Parade and Competition canceled as a result of COVID-19 | information

GREENSBORO, NC – Following many other Pride events around the country, Alternative Resources of the Triad (ART), the 501 (c) 3 nonprofit that produces Greensboro Pride, has decided to run its 2020 Pride Parade and Festival to cancel due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“That was a disappointing decision for the Greensboro Pride team,” said ART co-chair Paul Marshall. “We know the decision is in the best interests of the community and our organization, but we looked forward to our first Greensboro Pride Parade and the celebration of our 15th annual festival.”

The Triad and Greensboro Pride Boards of Alternative Resources voted on Wednesday April 29th to cancel this year’s events. Companies that have registered will be contacted directly and will have the option to receive a refund or secure their place for the parade and festival 2021.

“We will postpone the celebration of our 15th anniversary until 2021. It’s a huge milestone for ART, Greensboro Pride and the community and we don’t want to miss it, ”says Marshall.

The parade was scheduled for Saturday 27 June and the festival for Sunday 11 October 2020. Dates for 2021 are still pending.

Organizers plan to hold smaller events to celebrate Pride if the COVID-19 threat subsides. “We still want to celebrate Pride, we’ll just do it differently this year,” says ART Co-Chair Kayt (pr. Katie) Stewart.

ART also plans to run fundraisers for other organizations, including the Triad Health Project’s Blackboard and Interactive Resource Center, which are on the front lines of helping those affected by COVID-19.

“This is the perfect opportunity for us to support our other nonprofits and make a difference in our community,” says Stewart. “Even if our eponymous events are canceled this year, we can still use our platform for the benefit of the Greensboro community.”

Details on the online fundraiser are still being worked out. Connect with Greensboro Pride on their website GreensboroPride.org and follow them on Facebook and Instagram for the latest news and updates on upcoming events and fundraisers.
