Is Piggly Wiggly nonetheless coming to Freeman Mill Sq. in Greensboro?
It won’t open in November as hoped.
GREENSBORO, NC – Still a Piggly Wiggly coming to Freeman Mill Square in Greensboro?
The answer is yes, according to Shaz Quamar, one of the developers of the largely deserted mall on the corner of Freeman Mill Road and Florida Street, which is in an underserved neighborhood that’s a popular route for commuting to downtown Greensboro.
And a gas station is also on the way, said Quamar, who spoke to the Triad Business Journal with Valero (NYSE: VLO) and several other gas traders about the location. The developers would own the station but hire an operator.
On Thursday afternoon, Quamar, who is working with Shahzad Akbar and other investors in revitalizing the mall across from the Smith Homes community for affordable housing, told TBJ that the interior work and outfitting of the Piggly Wiggly and other retailers had been delayed while they were on the approval of the plans by the City of Greensboro.
