December 6, 1942 – June 27, 2021

James B. Brown (Jimmy) went into the arms of the angels on June 27, 2021. He leaves a legacy of 12 step work and love for people. He had a caring, loving spirit and an undying desire to help another sick alcoholic. He was loved very much by so many people and made many friends wherever he went. He maintained a friendly, funny demeanor into the last hours of his life.

A memorial service for Jimmy’s life will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., in Greensboro.

Jimmy was born on December 6, 1942 in Wilmington, NC, and later moved his family to Goldsboro, NC. In 1961 he graduated from Goldsboro High School. He moved to Greensboro in the early 1970s and made Greensboro, NC, his permanent residence. His early career was in banking, but he is best remembered as the 25-year-old general manager of Galloway Buick. He served on the Board of Directors of the Fellowship Hall Treatment Center for 32 years.

In death he was preceded by his parents Chauncey and Virginia Brown; a sister Nancy Stroud; and his dog Angel Alexis (Allie) Brown.

Among those he remembered are his wife, Rita Harbison Brown; Sisters Anne Brown Wessel and Sally Dominque; his children Beth Jones, Paige Hartley, Jamie Brown Borum, and Sean Hawkins; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, commemorative donations can be made to Fellowship Hall, 5140 Dunstan Rd., Greensboro, NC 27405.

The family thanks the staff at Camden Place who looked after him during the COVID-19 pandemic and in the last days of his life.
