Man charged with homicide in deadly assault on Greensboro lady, police say | crime

GREENSBORO – After the death of a victim in an attack, authorities on Monday charged a Greensboro man with first degree murder, police said in a press release.

At around 7:10 p.m. on August 28, officers at the Relax Inn on 1747 McKnight Mill Road answered and found Melissa Joann Vassell, 43, unresponsive and injured, according to police.

Vassell was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, police said.

Christopher James Alexander, 37, was arrested by Vassell at the time of the attack and charged with assaulting and seriously injuring a woman by a man over 21. About a week later, he was also charged with attempted murder, police said.

Vassell died Friday of her injuries, prompting authorities to charge Alexander with first degree murder.

Alexander is in custody at Guilford County Detention Center.
