Furr, Nancy Richards

May 6, 1932 – November 29, 2021

Nancy Richards Furr died on November 28, 2021 at the age of 89. Nancy died peacefully surrounded by loved ones, those she loved, and the wonderful Pennybyrn staff. Nancy grew up in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. She was born on May 6, 1932, to Arthur and Irene Richards. After graduating from high school, Nancy trained as a secretary at Fischer College in Boston.

Nancy used her education to honorably serve her country as a civilian in Germany. Here she met the love of her life, Sanford “Sandy” Dacil Furr from Kannapolis, North Carolina, who preceded her in death.

Upon arriving in the States, Nancy quickly became a fixture in the Guilford College community and raised two sons, Stephen Richards Furr and Bryan David Furr. Nancy was a charter member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, of which she was a member for 47 years. Nancy worked as an advisory secretary at Guilford Middle School, where she loved and supported the children of the Guilford College community for 24 years until she retired in 1997. Nancy was a friend to everyone and the love she showed for her family, friends and community was a blessing returned to her in her final days.

Nancy never missed opportunities to spend time with family and was always found at school events or sporting events for her boys and, later, her grandchildren. Nancy was a loving wife, mother, Bepa and great Bepa. Nancy leaves behind her sons Steve and Bryan and their wives Tracy and Karen; Grandsons, Ben, Adam, Patrick, Marianna and Reese and their spouses Sandra, James and Laurie; and great-grandchildren Benji, Owen, Elijah, Tessa and Ivy.
