Safety guard fatally shot at Greensboro Meals Lion

GREENSBORO, NC – Police are looking for the man who fatally shot and killed a security guard while he was working in a grocery store on Saturday night.

Anthony Charles Smith, 51, of Winston-Salem, was working in security at the Food Lion on Market Street when he was confronted by his attacker and police said he was gunshot. Smith died as a result of his injuries, police said.

Police said the suspect ran away on South English Street towards McConnell Road.

The suspect has been described as a fair-skinned, stocky black man in his early 30s who was 5’10’-6 ‘tall and was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black hat, and Nike sneakers.

The police said there were many buyers in the store at the time of the shooting.

Investigators asked anyone in the store between 7:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. to call either Crimestoppers (336) 373-1000 or Detective AR Hinson (336) 574-4004. The investigation continues.
