Sharon Ozment Obituary (1956-2021) – Greensboro, NC
Ozment, Sharon “Oz”
January 25, 1956 – December 19, 2021
Sharon “Oz” Ozment, 65, died on Saturday, December 18, at home with her loving family.
Sharon was born on January 25, 1956, raised in Greensboro, North Carolina, excelled in school, and proud to be a page pirate. She started working for the school system straight out of high school. She started in the copy room and began attending GTCC, moving to Greensboro College, and graduating with Honors in 1991. Her hard work, determination, and loyalty eventually led her to become chief financial officer for Guilford County Schools. During her 38 years of service at GCS, she met many wonderful people and made lifelong friendships. Sharon was selfless and always put others before himself; In your work with the school system, the decision for the children was always at the center of your work. She has won many awards and accolades for her work over the years, but her servant’s heart was also shown in her parish work with the Presbyterian Church of the Cross, B Natural Music Academy, NCCJ, and the SECU Board, to name a few . Many know her as an athlete and trainer, and she loved keeping up with her teammates and mentees over time. Others comment on her brain, her ability to be humble and work with integrity – whether it be at school board meetings, during household season while serving as interim superintendent, or helping the law firm Turning Point Litigation balance sheet of where she “retires.” Her family loved her dearly, if not protectively at times. She assumed the role of parenting over 30 years ago when she met her beloved Kaylene and her two teenage daughters and helped raise their daughters and then their children as well She was funny, could fix anything, and was admired and respected for everything she did. To the end, she wanted to be sure that loved ones knew she loved her as she found the ultimate cure for her cancer in heaven , she reminded loved ones that we can find them in our minds and hearts because she cherished both and knew we would need both n to face their loss of this world.
Sharon leaves behind her wife, Kaylene Peeples of Greensboro, NC, and daughters Tara Peeples (Shannon) and Brooke Shaffer-Price (Chris), and sisters Pat Scales, Faye Foy and Jeannette Kirkman. Gagi loved her grandchildren “to the moon and back”: Madison Lineberry, Savannah Shaffer, Christopher Shaffer, Knox Peeples, and Charlotte Price. She also leaves nieces and nephews, as well as countless other friends who were like her family. Her parents Sidney and Ruth Ozment and her brother Stephen Ozment preceded her in death.
To know Sharon was to love Sharon. You may never meet anyone else with such sincerity, generosity, or dedication. Instead of flowers, the family asked for donations to the Presbyterian Church of the Cross. The family welcomes visitors to the Presbyterian Church of the Cross on 1810 Phillips Avenue, Greensboro, Monday, December 27, 2021, December 12-13, 2021. The service in honor of her life begins at 1:00 p.m. A live stream will be available on the Church’s Facebook page. Masks are required for those who are present in person. A private family funeral will take place at a later date.
