The return of college football is driving television audience ratings
TV viewers are ready for soccer and the opening week of the college season proved it.
Three college matches scored among the Nielsen company’s four most watched television shows last week. Only one episode of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” made it through.
The most popular game was Saturday night’s ABC show in which Georgia lost third-placed Clemson in Charlotte, North Carolina. The other popular matchups paired Notre Dame and Florida State and Ohio State and Minnesota.
It’s all a warm-up act for professional football, which kicks off its season this week and promises to dominate live television.
Since it showed two of the three games, ABC was the most watched station of the week, with an average of 4.4 million prime-time viewers. CBS had 2.6 million, NBC had 2.53 million, Fox had 2.49 million, Univision had 1.5 million, Ion Television had 1.1 million, and Telemundo had 1 million.
