With two successful locations in Charlotte, The City Kitch will be expanded to include a third location in Greensboro’s Friendly Avenue neighborhood in September 2021.
CHARLOTTE, NC, August 23, 2021 – The City Kitch, a commercial kitchen community providing private and shared facilities to all food businesses across North Carolina, has announced plans to expand to a third location on Friendly Avenue in Greensboro in September 2021. The City Kitch currently has facilities in the University and West End areas of Charlotte, NC.
The City Kit has been the market leader in Charlotte for some time, starting with a converted K&W cafeteria in the university area. Chef Carrie Hegnar, founder of The City Kitch and former Senior Culinary Instructor at Johnson & Wales, saw the need for this type of facility for her own grocery store. Hegnar founded The City Kitch to meet this need and soon fell in love with the ability to help other food business owners build and expand their businesses. Much of The City Kitch’s beginnings focused on providing facilities and business support for mobile catering services such as food trucks, caterers, and bakers. Today they see themselves as more than a commercial kitchen facility and see themselves as a collaborative and supportive community for their customers. The City Kit enables culinary companies to focus on what they do best, preparing great food for their customers, while avoiding the risky, capital-intensive investments associated with physical locations. The facility offers flexible kitchen space with a team dedicated to providing resources and fostering a community atmosphere to help food companies take their concepts to the next level.
City Kitch’s newest location in Greensboro will provide local food businesses with flexible commercial kitchen space and access to a growing community of like-minded food business owners along with an experienced and resourceful facility management team. The goal is to attract food companies in different stages of growth looking for a quality facility to add variety and flavor to the city.
City Kitch General Manager Jim Swain said, “Our Greensboro location is exciting because everything we learned from our Charlotte locations was brought to perfection in our Greensboro kitchen model. Everything is beautifully designed to accommodate any type of grocery store of any size. We’re excited to see the culinary community expanding into a new city and expanding our reach in the North Carolina market! ”City Kitch Greensboro will also have a“ front door ”zone dedicated to grocery delivery / collection and offers education and training opportunities for culinary professionals.
City Kitch Greensboro will host an invitation-only grand opening on November 3, 2021 at its Milner Street location. The event includes a ribbon cut, tours and a VIP reception. Due to COVID-19 precautions, the event is limited to invited guests only, but the City Kitch team will be engaging with the Greensboro community as Presenting Sponsor of the Greensboro Food Truck Festival on August 29, 2021.
Efforts to pre-lease the Greensboro site are in full swing. Private prep suites as well as memberships in the communal kitchen and in the Mobile Food Business (MoFUs) can now be reserved. The Private Prep Suites, which are dedicated one-person units within the facility that tenants can customize to their specific needs, are typically the first rooms to rent at the facility.
