Wayne was born in Greensboro on October 2, 1936. Growing up, Wayne loved baseball and was the batboy for the Greensboro Patriots when he was a teenager and was there when Jackie Robinson came through in 1950. Wayne served as a chef in the National Guard. After attending umpire school, he became a minor league professional umpire. Wayne married Joyce Anderson on November 16, 1956 and had 58 wonderful years of marriage until her death on June 24, 2015. He worked for Kirkman Koury, Southern Mapping Surveying and Engineering, City of Greensboro Surveying, and worked with Trulove Engineering and Carolina Surveyors. Wayne started his own surveying company and toured the east coast doing geodetic surveys. He also sub-contracted Brevard Engineering across Florida and performed control surveys on such projects, including work on the first Disney World boundary survey and NASA Bicentennial at Kennedy Space Center in 1976. Wayne returned home in 1977 for a new one to start local surveying company, Wayne L. Stutts, PA. He also received his general contractor license and built numerous houses. Along the way, Wayne developed subdivisions and built a large portfolio of rental apartments. He had been a proud and active member of Alcoholics Anonymous since August 23, 1977. Wayne was proud to have established the Lighthouse Ministry, a stopover for newly sober AA and NA members. He built the Renewal Center of the South, a spiritual retreat center for the Twelve Step Church, and served on the board. He was proud to be on the 12th level reputation list for Intergroup and Fellowship Hall. Wayne loved his family dearly and enjoyed creating memories in their Oak Island home and vacation spots. Wayne was an avid English Bulldog enthusiast and if you saw him drive his truck around town, you were guaranteed to see one in the passenger seat.
